      The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between Berzonsky's identity style and Marcia’s identity status, and to understand how identity style was related to happenstance skills. In addition, we investigated the distribution of identity style by identity status in term of the level of commitment. A total of 474 college students (263 male and 211 female students) participated in the study. The participants completed questionnaires on identity style, identity status, and happenstance skills. The results were as follows. First, there were significant relationships between norm-oriented identity style and other identity styles. However, there was no discernible relationship between norm-oriented and diffuse/avoidance-oriented identity style. Second, there were significant gender differences in terms of the distribution of identity style. Third, there were significant distinctions in terms of the frequency between identity style and identity status. Fourth, in foreclosure and diffusion status, there were significant differences in terms of the distribution of identity style depending on their commitment level. Fifth, college students with order information-oriented, norm-oriented, and diffuse/avoidance-oriented identity styles reported higher scores on happenstance skills. Through this research, we found the importance of career identity style in identity studies and identified new guidelines for future career counseling.
