日本語における母音融合の類型 –中部地方の方言に見られる融合パターン– = The Typology of Vowel Coalescence in Japanese -Coalescence patterns of two dialects in the Southern and Eastern Chubu region-

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper examines vowel coalescences pattern in two dialects of the Southern and Eastern Chubu region in Japan within the framework of Optimality Theory (Prince and Smolensky 1993/2004, McCarthy and Prince 1999). Shizuoka Japanese and Owari Japanese have similarities in coalescence pattern; two vowels are coalesced in favor of preserving not only lower feature in vowel height but also frontness over backness. This two dialects, however, differ in preserving roundness: Owari Japanese preserves the roundness in coalesced vowel but Shizuoka Japanese does not.
I will analyze this patterns with the ranking of markedness constraints on vowel inventory (e.g., *[+low, -back], *[+low, +round], and *[-back, +round]) and faithfulness constraints on vowel features (e.g., Max[feature]).
