This study aims to design a Korean language education program with a focus on job-seeking activities for Vietnamese women immigrants residing in Korea. Recognizing the serious communication challenges faced by Vietnamese women immigrants due to a lack of proficiency in Korean, especially during the job preparation process, the study seeks to alleviate these difficulties. The proposed education program aims to provide tailored vocational guidance, as well as training in document preparation (such as resumes and self-introductions), interview skills, workplace culture, and various job preparation programs. This not only aims to reduce the burden of job-seeking for Vietnamese women immigrants but also aims to boost their confidence, ultimately leading to an increase in job success rates. Furthermore, the active economic participation of female immigrant spouses can significantly contribute to the stable settlement of multicultural families and, to some extent, contribute to the future social development and economic growth of South Korea.
In this study, the focus is specifically on Vietnamese women immigrants residing in Korea, and the research content regarding the design of a Korean language education program for job purposes is structured as follows:
Chapter 1 introduces the purpose of the study and reviews prior research on job-oriented Korean language education for female immigrant spouses.
Chapter 2 examines the definition and significance of curriculum design and needs analysis for designing a job-oriented Korean language education program. It also explores the concepts and characteristics of job-oriented Korean language education, as well as the current status of Korean language education for female immigrant spouses.
Chapter 3 conducts an analysis of Korean language textbooks for job purposes for Vietnamese women immigrants. The analysis includes defining the purpose of textbook analysis, selecting the target textbooks and analysis criteria, and presenting the results of the analysis in four areas: theme, vocabulary and expressions, tasks/activities, and culture.
Chapter 4 conducts a needs assessment for Vietnamese female immigrant learners. Based on the analysis results of the needs assessment, in-depth interviews are conducted with both Vietnamese women immigrants and employers who have hiring authority.
Chapter 5 designs a Korean language education program for job purposes for Vietnamese women immigrants, based on the results of the textbook analysis in Chapter 3 and the survey and interview analyses from Chapter 4.
Finally, Chapter 6 concludes by summarizing the comprehensive discussion of the study and describing its significance. It also provides suggestions for future research tasks related to this study.
