In the modern society, we're living surrounded with various colors. Color can be a communication method to understand the world before languages.
Moreover, color is a medium to represent a country or a nation. We, the Koreans, have also had our own colors. But school education about colors has mainly stood on Western standard color system and education about our traditional colors is not various and remains behind. Not only presentation and explanation of reference materials are superficial, but also formal and fragmentary class about our traditional colors invokes misunderstandings and prejudices about them.
Therefore, this study has a purpose to suggest that teenage students naturally learn the ability to express and recreate them through more effective and empirical ways than theoretical and intellectual traditional color education does.
Thus, we need to analyze currently practiced traditional color education in middle school, see problems from it and suggest diverse traditional color education programs for activating traditional color education and improving its educational effects.
With the questionnaire survey of students about traditional art education and traditional color education, most of them consider them familiar and beautiful but it shows that current education for it is too weak and insufficient.
Therefore, this study suggests the integrated method which holds areas of Art textbook, Aesthetic experience, Expression and Appreciation, to recognize the superiority of our traditional colors by appreciation class and expression class, making up for the weak points of current traditional color education which has just offered simple knowledge and appreciation.
Also, for expression class, it suggests using computer graphic program m, which is very effective for expression but economic, to understand easily differences according to change of color scheme.
As a result, this study brings the effects which are reflected on next paragraph.
First, it effectively integrates three parts of Art, Aesthetic experience, Expression, and Appreciation, extends students' cognitive level and range and improves their ability to express and appreciate art works.
Second, it helps appreciating the beauty of traditional colors through its conceptual meaning and various types of learning and understanding fundamental traditional colors.
Third, it finds out aesthetic values from traditional life during the process how traditional colors have been expressed in Korean Traditional Art.
Fourth, it makes students motivated to take part in expression activity using computer graphic program and experience various coloring within short time.
Fifth, it contributes to build up students' positive self-concept and make them feel a sense of achievement from art activity which is about making packing paper using traditional colors.
Sixth, it raises students' democratic contemplative faculty and learning community consciousness through experiences about compromising and collecting opinions from appreciative criticism when they compare complete art works one another.
To appreciate our traditional colors through teaching about various colors can help us understand our traditional art culture and raise our pride to Korean culture, furthermore, it shows the way to teach to improve the ability to develop original recreation based on understanding our traditional art.
In the future I hope that art education will succeed to traditional art culture of the past, understand current art culture and practice education which can develop new art culture.
