Today, the dual career families of the middle class are on the increase, but there are not many researches to know what these families demand for their children's nurture. We need to know specifically their demands and situations to offer superior child care arrangements and better service.
The purpose of this study wss to furnish informations to be reflected in child care policy. The subject of this study were 732 married couples with children under 10 who have a double income, a yearly income of over 30,000,000 Won, and on office work or a proffessional work. The average age of wives were 35 and the husband's were 38, and their residence were n Metropolitan area in Seoul & Kyunggi-Do.
The results were as follows :
First of all, most of the dual career families with children under the age of 3 nursed their children at home, and over 3 mostly used child care arrangements but not entirely. The parents spended more that 500,000 Won when they nurse their children at home. and 150,000∼200,000 Won for the child care centers. Most families wanted to spend 200,000∼350,000 Won for the child care arrangement. which is higher than the average price. The dual career families were using the child care centers because of the variety of the programs. facilities,, toys, ets.
Second, the dual career families with children under 3 wanted safety in the child care center and the families with children over 3 wanted more the education for sociality. basic living practice and attitude. And they hoped more child care arrangements near at hand for convenience.
