3 years have already passed since the issue of e-book landed down in Korea from U.S.A. During the 3 years, e-book related issues put Korean publishing industry, bookstore industry, the academia and government departments into chaos, much like that the tsunami does. Furthermore, the tsunami of e-book attacked not only writers and readers, but also publishing contents itself, technology, culture and overall industry. The problem is that e-book related issues still remains unresolved in the sphere of influence by the tsunami. At the core of the problems were the individual reaction measure taken by e-book stakeholders. The stakeholders to e-book tried to overcome the tsunami at different points based on peculiarly individual viewpoint in their approaches and task solutions. In this regard, this study classified the structure of e-book related stakeholders in 3 categories of [contents creation - contents processing and distribution - contents consumption] and reviewed the responding measures taken by each category, for the purpose of straightening up with what viewpoint existing stakeholders related to publishing approached e-book, and how they tried to resolve the task. Subsequently, this study will diagnose the phenomenon of e-book from the viewpoint of reading/writing technology evolution. and then consider what kind of ponderation are required for e-book to be reborn as the darling of the age, and with what kind of viewpoint tasks thereon are to be established and resolved.
Also for this purpose, this study emphasizes that digital reading/writing culture and esthetics shall be materialized with attitude, creed and values that are at one step ahead. positively accepting the trend and phenomenon of the digital reading/writing age, and also recognizes that current new digital reading/writing phenomenon such as e-book, self-publishing platform etc. are future version of ‘book’, ‘reading’, ‘publishing’, ‘reading/ writing culture’. Therefore profound ponderation of reading/writing job and humanistic introspection and approach shall be acknowledged as our tasks.
In, conclusion, this study raises the necessity of re-conceptualization of book-reading-publishing-reading/writing culture for the purpose of settling down e-book.
