The methodology of this study is based on Industrial Ecology. We tried to find out the effects of industrial ecological linkages often named industrial symbiosis on the environmental problems in the industrial complexes of Korea. We selected 35 industrial complexes from the all over the country. We made two hypotheses - one hypotheses is The more types of industries reside in the industrial complexes, The higher the rate of waste recycling and another hypothesis is The more linkable industries reside in the industrial complexes, The higher the rate of waste recycling - and analyzed them by a statistical method(especially by correlation). Also, we investigated the policies that have prevented many kinds of manufacturing firms from locating in industrial complexes.
Two hypotheses we sat up turned out to be right from the results of our analyses. In addition, we knew that the policies for restricting certain kinds of firms in industrial complexes have not positive effects on the environmental problems of industrial complexes. So we came to a conclusion that we should use industrial ecological development techniques when we try to develop or redevelop industrial complexes in Korea.
