신화적 상상력을 경유하여 현실에 개입하는 소설의 확장된 의미 －구병모의 ｢하르피아이와 축제의 밤｣을 텍스트로 한 발표와 토론 수업을 바탕으로－ = The Extended Meaning of the Novel Intervening in Reality Via Mythological Imagination －Based on Presentations and Discussion Classes with Text from Harpies and The Night of the Festival－

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 학제적 융합과목인 ‘문학과 젠더’ 강의에서, 동화와 신화를 적극적으로 차용한 소설 ｢하르피아이와 축제의 밤｣을 분석하여 발표하고 토론한 실제수업사례를 바탕으로 구성된다. ‘문학과 젠더’ 교과목은 페미니즘의 시각으로문학텍스트 읽기에서 시작하여 이를 현재 사회문화와 자신의 삶과 연결지어 사유하고 토론하는 수업이다. ｢하르피아이와 축제의 밤｣은 신화적 상상력을 경유한 판타지적인 소설이면서 현실세계에 문학적으로 개입하여 현실세계를 형상화하는 텍스트이다. 본고에서는 해당 텍스트의 분석과 해석을 통한 수강생들의 사고 확장 과정을 고찰하고 나아가 ‘타자에 대한 이해불가능’과 ‘역지사지’, ‘여성살해’와 ‘대항폭력’이라는 논점들을 담고 있는 이 소설에 대한 논의를 통해 학생들이 현재 한국사회에서 가장 직접적으로 실감하는 논쟁지점을 다룬다. 해당 수업에서는 허구서사인 소설에서의 대항폭력을 현실사회에 적용하기 위한 논점으로 여성혐오언어에 대한 대항서사인 ‘미러링’이 선택되었으며, 미러링의 의도와전략에 대한 구체적이고 풍부한 논거들을 바탕으로 활발한 토론이 이어졌다. 미러링은 타자의 자리에 서 볼 생각조차 없었던 이들을 역지사지의 지평에 서게 한다는 궁극의 의도와 전략을 가진 것이다. 문학은 대항담론, 대항서사로서 사회적 의의를 가지고 있으며, 미러링 등의 대항서사는 문학적 미학성까지 추구할수 있다. 수강생들이 해당 소설텍스트를 향유하며 문학의 미학과 사회적 의의를체험하고 ‘문학’을 통해 ‘젠더’를 사유하는 융합적 사고능력과 이를 논리적으로표현하는 능력을 연마할 수 있음을 실증적으로 논한 것에 본 논문의 의의가 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This thesis discusses the process of students’ thinking expansion based on the actual class cases that analyzed, presented, and discussed the novel Harpies and the night of the festival, which actively borrowed fairy tales and myths in the Literature and Gender class. This novel includes issues such as incomprehension of others, femicide, and counterviolence, and through these issues, the most directly realized point of controversy in Korean society is examined. This novel is a text that leads to an exciting reading process by quoting stories of fairy tales and myths and stories of mythical characters that existed in a detailed composition and arranging them like puzzle pieces.
Therefore, the students experience the aesthetics of short stories, recognize the way literature intervenes in the real society, and expand the confluence of literature and gender. In the novel, the male character who participated in the men’s tournament and became the target of the hunt did not even try to understand the other person, but at the last moment he remembers the philosopher and mathematician Hypatia who was the victim of witch hunting and understands the position of others. Mirroring, a mirror reflection on misogynistic language, was selected as a point of discussion to apply the counterviolence in the novel to the current real society. Literature has social significance as a counter discourse and counter narratives such as mirroring can pursue literary aesthetics. This study is meaningful in that it empirically discusses that students can enjoy the novel, experience the aesthetics and social significance of literature, and cultivate the ability to think about gender through literature.
