Surveys on atmospheric phenomena, entomological investigation, antibody titers of amplifying hosts of Japanese Encephalitis Virus (JEV) have been carried out in the endemic area of Chunnam from 1981 to 1983.
The results were as follows;
1. It was found that the monthly average air temperatures in January, June, July and August for the past 3 year were 0.5℃, 22.1℃, 25℃, and 26℃ respectively.
2. The Culex tritaeniorhynchus was first found at the begining of June. The density of the Culex tritaeniorhynchus was increased fast and reached the peak at the latter half of July. The status of the density was continued until the latter part of September. Comparing the density of the past 3 years, we found that of 1982 the highest.
3. Hemagglutination inhibition (HI) antibody titers in the sera of the swines aged older than 6 months and younger than 12 months reached higher than 50% during the days August 16 to 24 for the past 3 years.
4. H I antibody titers in the ducks tested showed 64.5% at the middle of September.
5. The time of the first occurrence was getting relaitvely earlier than usual.
