국어 성격 형용사에 대한 연구 = A Study on the Characteristic Adjectives in Korean

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

There is a category which shows human characters such as being diligent, idle, brave, etc. in the Korean lexicon. This category has a great number of words that express human characters. Therefore we can find some significance in this thesis by denominating a category of this kind of predicative verbs the character adjectives, establishing the range of them, and discovering the syntactic and meaningful features. The characteristic adjectives are those expressing human attributes or states or human behavior types or thought types, so their {character/head} should be suitable to an adjective frame and they can be accompanied with `behave ~ly` without any restriction. The structures of the sentences are realized as `NP₁ + {character/action} Adj`, `{character/ action}of NP₁ Adj` since the meaning domain of the characteristic adjectives could have `character` or `action`. Although they are adjectives, they are able to carry out `command, intension, promise, persuasion` because of their `internal motion`. On top of that, the characteristic adjectives contain the meaning of `evaluation`, holding the passive controlling passibility and intention, and many opponent pairs are divided into the positive meaning domain and the negative meaning domain.
