한국 아동들의 말놀이 유형과 사용 양상: 어린이집 교실 담화를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 어린이집 교실 담화에서 연행되는 아동 말놀이 사례들을 수집하여 이의 구조적 특성과 사용 양상을 살펴본다. 말놀이 사례의 분석은 아동 말놀이가 동음이의어를 사용한 말재간, 금기어나 욕설의 사용, 예상치 않은 맥락에서의 공손 관용 표현, 말 겨루기라는 네 가지 표현 양식상의 유형을 특징으로 하며, 사용 양상에 있어서는 갈등 완화 전략과 교실 질서의 재구성을 주된 목적으로 하고 있음을 보여준다. 분석 결과는 아동들이 다양한 말놀이 목록을 습득하고 있을 뿐만 아니라 한국어의 음운론적, 의미론적 구조 및 언어 사용의 문화적 맥락에 관한 매우 정교한 지식을 지니고 있음을 보여준다. 논문은 아동 말놀이에 나타난 문화특수적, 범문화적 특성들을 말놀이에 관한 기존 연구 결과들과 연계하여 논의한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In this paper, I examine the structure and use of children’s verbal play performed in a Korean preschool classroom. Based on sociolinguistic analysis of verbal play occurring in everyday classroom discourses, the paper lists pun, taboo words, the playful or silly polite routines, and verbal dueling as main structural properties of children’s verbal play. It further shows that children strategically use verbal play to avoid or mitigate peer conflicts and also to subvert social order and hierarchy within the classroom. The findings articulate that children not only possess rich repertoires of verbal play but know how to parse language and grammatical structure to constitute their identities and social relationships within local classroom community.
