소규모 초등학교 체육수업에 담긴 스포츠맨십의 현상학적 고찰 = A Phenomenological Exploration of Sportsmanship in Small Scale Elementary School Physical Education Classes

The present study describes the experiential meaning of numerous individuals regarding certain phenomena and establishes how aspects of sportsmanship, which are demanded in the new physical education subject paradigm of physical activity worth cultivation, are manifested in the physical education classes of small scale schools in rural areas, which are special environments, through phenomenological methods which explore its universal nature. Seven sixth grade students in a small scale elementary school with a total of 46 students were selected as research participants and themes were created through data collection such as long term observation, in-depth interviews, related literature, and previous studies along with the process of inductive analysis. The aspects of sportsmanship that appeared in research participants were largely categorized into a sense of responsibility in voluntary moral behavior which is not largely influenced by outside interference, rule observance by interaction with others, and emotional expression. Participants could be seen being role models based on the moral self-esteem of high egocentricity and trying to fulfill a sense of responsibility that is directly connected to complying with one’s own role. Also, there were displays of rule violations, force, or annoyance during games due to obsessions towards winning but they were at insignificant levels, unlike cases of generalized social notions of rule violations or fair play in previous studies or in adult sports phenomena. The affective domains of physical education classes are expanded concepts of sportsmanship and for them to spread into people’s lifestyles, there must be detailed guidance in curriculums, textbooks, and teaching guides. Systematized sportsmanship education within teaching and learning mediums is not a fragmented and trivial standard but rather a necessary process that can be internalized.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 어떤 현상에 대한 여러 개인들의 체험적 의미를 기술하고 그것의 보편적 본질을 탐구하는 현상학적 방법을 통해 신체활동 가치 함양이라는 체육교과의 새로운 패러다임에서 요구하는 스포츠맨십의 양상이 특수한 환경인 농촌지역 소규모학교의 체육수업에서는 어떻게 발현되는지를 규명하는 것이다. 전교생이 46명인 농촌지역 소규모 초등학교 6학년 7명을 연구참여자로 선정하여 장기간의 관찰, 심층면담, 관련 문헌, 선행연구 등의 자료수집과 귀납적 범주분석의 과정을 거쳐 의미있는 주제를 생성하고자 하였다. 연구참여자들에게서 나타난 스포츠맨십의 양상은 외부의 개입이 크게 영향을 끼치지 않는 자발적인 도덕적 행동의 책임감과 타자와의 상호작용에 의한 규칙준수, 감정표출로 크게 범주화되었다. 높은 자기 본위의 도덕적 자아존중감을 바탕으로 솔선수범과 자신의 역할 준수와 직결된 책임감을 실천하려는 모습을 볼 수 있었다. 또한 승리에 집착한 나머지 경기수행 중에 규칙을 위반한다거나 우격다짐, 짜증 등이 표출되기도 하였으나, 선행연구나 성인 스포츠 현상에서 규칙위반과 페어플레이라는 일반화된 사회적 통념의 사례들과는 달리 미미한 수준이었다. 체육수업을 통한 정의적 영역은 스포츠맨십의 확장된 개념이며 생활기술(life style)로 전이되기 위해서는 교육과정, 교과서, 교사용 지도서 등에 구체적으로 안내가 되어야 하겠다. 피부로 와 닿는 교수․학습용 매체 속의 체계화된 스포츠맨십 교육은 기존의 파편화시킨 사소한 규범이 아니라 내면화될 수 있는 필연적인 수순이다.
