The performance and noise characteristics of cross flow fans are investigated by computational methods. The 2-D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in moving coordinates are solved for obtaining the pressure fluctuations at the impeller blades and the stabilizer. The acoustic pressures arc then computed by the Ffowcs Williams-Hawkings equation. The performance and noise characteristics of the cross flow fan are investigated about the blade setting angle(α). the diffusing angle(β) and the stabilizer installation angle(??) and an optimized model is searched by using the Taguchi method. From the comparison. it is found that the flow energy biased to the stabilizer is evenly redistributed and the fan performance and noise characteristics are improved by the optimized model.
