PCC(Portland Cement concrete) pavement have been constructed widely in Korea since the beginning of 1980's. The deterioration of PCC pavement has been increased considerably. So far, crack/joint sealing and full depth repair have been major maintenance methods for the PCC pavement.
As the PCC pavement deteriorations and the maintenance costs increase, however, major rehabilitation such as overlay becomes necessary to restore the pavement condition.
For the feasibility of asphalt overlay method for korean condition, it is necessary that design methods are reviewed and design procedure is computerized.
In this study, overlay design methods which are used in other countries are reviewed. Among various overlay design methods, 1993 AASHTO overlay design method is more reasonable and detailed.
The objective of this study is to show the design method of asphalt overlay over PCC pavement based on 1993 AASHTO overlay method and to develop design method program. Followings are the results of this paper.
The algorithm to develop design method program is accomplished based on 1993 AASHTO overlay design method.
The structural design program for asphalt overlay over PCC pavement, precision and approximate design approach are used in all, is developed.
In the conclusion, the useful design program for asphalt overlay over PCC pavement has been developed for korean condition, which was made by Visual Basic 6.0 (Microsoft Com). The program consists of three sub programs. One is program for analysis of nondestructive test results, another is program for backcalculation of existing concrete pavement, the other is program for structural design of asphalt overlay. And all these were unified into one program.
