Usability of the finite element method in the free oscillation analysis of a harbor is investigated. For a numerical solution of the governing Helmholtz equation, a finite element equation is formulated using the Galerkin's method. A numerical example is presented. The results are reasonable compared with the analytic solution, hence it shows the effective applicability of the finite element technique in the harbor oscillation problems, Also, it is found that the finite element method can be generally used for the free oscillation analysis of arbitrarily-shaped harbors with variable depths.
