다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

It is very trite to compare the flower to the woman. But I`d like to try to compare the way of expression, the simile and the metaphor for the flowers in this essay. Two authors are selected because they are well known to use the comparison with flowers, Yi-Hyoseok and Marcel Proust. Yi-Hyoseok is incline to use the simile than the metaphor, Marcel Proust prefer the metaphor to the simile. The difference between the metaphors of Yi-Hyoseok and those of M. Proust is remarkable. The former uses the comparison, the simile for the flowers more directly and objectively, the latter uses the metaphor for the flowers more mediately and significantly. So it is easy to understand the meaning of the flower through the simile, but the metaphor has various significances according to the context. In that point, the reader has a space to participate in interpreting the flower symbols. The simile and the metaphor are particularly useful in the interpretation of flower symbols with the women. The author projected his secret desire for woman to the flowers with the metaphor and the reader need to read the novels more carefully to find the hint which comes the way to interpretation of the symbols. In this essay, I`d like to investigate the way of expression `flower-woman` and the effect of the simile and metaphor of two authors on the `flower-woman`.
