성역할 정체감과 청소년 비행의 관계; 사회통제이론의 실증분석 = Gender Role Identity and Juvenile Delinquency: an Empirical Test of Social Control Theory

This study empirically examines the nonlinear relationship between gender role identification and juvenile delinquency, which was based on general strain theory. Data from the third-year wave interview of Korea Youth Panel Survey, which was conducted with 3,125 first-grade high school students selected through stratified multi-stage cluster sampling method, were analyzed. Polynomial regressions were performed, with addition of a quadratic term involving parental attachment in one equation model and a quadratic term involving teacher attachment in another. Juvenile delinquency among female students with gender role identification below average is observed to rise steeply as their identity decreases, whereas in the case of female students with high gender role identification had little relation to juvenile delinquency. Analyzed results support the general strain theory on delinquency, but measurement and operationalization of gender role identity remains as the limits of the research. The major findings of the study suggests that there was no significant linear relationships between gender role identification and juvenile delinquency, and that the effect of parental and teacher attachment on juvenile delinquency was nonlinear, which was predicted by general strain theory on delinquency. In cases of female students, a statistically significant non-linear relationship was observed between gender role identity and juvenile delinquency at a right-skewed non-linear regression model. The students with negative attachment to their parents were much more delinquent than positively attached ones, while neutral and positively attached students had similar levels of delinquency. The results for teacher attachment were similar to those for parental attachment.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 청소년 비행에 대한 사회통제이론을 바탕으로 성역할 정체감과 청소년 비행의 관계를 실증적으로 분석하는 것이다. 연구대상은 한국청소년패널조사의 중2 패널 3년차 조사 자료를 분석하였는데, 제주도를 제외한 전국의 중학교 2학년 청소년들을 모집단으로 하여 층화다단계집략표집에 의해 표본으로 뽑힌 3,687명 중에서 3년차(2005년)의 추적조사가 가능했던 3,125명으로 하였다. 개인의 인구사회적 특성으로 가족의 구성형태, 가족 구성원의 월 평균소득을, 사회적 통제로는 부모애착, 교사애착, 친구애착, 진로설정과 관련된 전반적 생각, 여가 생활 만족도, 법 준수에 대한 신념을 조건변인으로 분석 모형에 포함시켜 비행에 대한 그 영향을 통제하였다. 비선형분석에서는 성역할 정체감에 대한 2차 방정식을 적용하여 비선형회귀분석을 하였다.
분석의 결과 남학생의 성역할 정체감과 청소년 비행간에는 통계적으로 유의한 선형의 관계가 나타났으나, 비선형의 관계에서는 통계적으로 유의하지 않았다. 반면 여학생의 성역할 정체감에 대한 청소년 비행은 비선형의 회귀모형에서 통계적으로 유의한 비선형의 관계가 나타났다. 비선형의 형태는 아래로 볼록한 비선형형태로 성역할 정체감의 수준이 평균이하의 낮은 수준에서 낮아짐에 따라 청소년 비행은 급속히 증가하다 성역할 정체감이 평균이하의 낮은 수준에서 다시 증가함에 따라 청소년 비행이 증가하나 성역할 정체감이 평균이하의 낮은 수준에서는 비슷한 비행의 경향을 보이고 있다. 이러한 분석결과는 성역할 정체감에 따라서 청소년 비행이 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보이고 있으며, 여학생의 성역할 정체감이 비행에 영향을 미치는 비선형적 영향에 대한 사회통제이론의 주장을 지지하고 있다. 그러나 성역할 정체감의 측정과 관련한 조작적 정의의 문제는 여전히 연구의 제한점으로 남는다.
