Pavement marking provides the delineation to drivers and make the night time driving possible. It is well known that night time delineation is correlated with night time traffic accident. Therefore, highway officers have to keep the desirable pavement marking performance sustainable. The present study is to develop the DB system on which the future PMMS can be developed and on which a lot of characteristics of pavement marking performance such as the material and resurfacing period characteristics would be defined. The DB system includes two year's measurement in '05~'06 over Korean freeway pavement marking periodically. The mobile measurement system was employed for the purpose. The DB has provided a lot of information about materials and performance of the specific pavement marking such as: The performance of white pavement marking is measured higher than of yellow pavement marking. The performance of water borne pavement marking is higher than those of others. The geometric, traffic volume, or material characteristic is one of the major factors which affects pavement marking performance. This study provides the comparison of pavement marking performances under diversified conditions. Based on current pavement marking performances over the country, this study provides a new measurement ways considering standard deviations. The results mentioned above are all about the currently observed values. These values reflect the current method , usual practices, and environments of pavement markings. Therefore, these results are very limited to explain future performance of pavement marking. For more generalized conclusions, the more study which include all national or provicial roads over the country and periodic studies are necessary.
