This study was performed to analyze effects of decision making centered-STS(Science-Technology-Society) classes on the students` attitudes towards science, and perceptions about science/technology and society. Three classes(n=120) were selected from general high school in seoul, and the subjects were the 11th graders. The decision making centered-STS classes consisted of 4 phases, perception of problems, searching for alternatives, evaluation of alternatives and decision were administered for treatment group. Another STS classes were administered for one of the control group by using non decision-making instruction strategies, and traditional classes centered on teacher were administered for another control group. The learning contents were selected from unit of reproduction and bioengineering, and total 8 classes were administered during period of treatment. The students` attitudes towards science were surveyed by using instrument consisted of 26 items, three domains(class, career, and hobby). The students` views about the relationship between science/technology and society were surveyed by using 8 items selected from VOSTS(Views On Science-Technology-Society). After intervention, the treatment group of decision making centered-STS classes had more positive attitudes on the science class and the usefulness of science than the control groups(p<.05). Comparing post test with pretest, positive attitudes increased significantly in the treatment group, too (p<.05). In frequencies of responses about STS, the treatment group had more frequencies to perceive the interrelationship of STS compared with the control group of traditional classes(p<.05), but there was no difference between the treatment group and the control group of non decision makings-STS classes.
