The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of school adaptation stress on school life maladjustment and whether these relationships are moderated by leisuretime exercise. The participants of this study were 258 Chinese international student (D-2student visa) studying four universities located in Jeju special self-governing province. The participants completed a questionnaire tapping the targeted variables. The major findings were as follows. First, emotional maladjustment by communicational stress showed a significant differences depending on the level of leisure-time exercise participation, and emotional maladjustment by economical stress showed a significant differences according to the level of leisure-time exercise participation. Second, all factors of school adaptation stress(communication, economical, academic, cultural, uncertainty of the future career) had a significant positive effect on all factors of school life adjustment(emotional, social, academic, college environment). Third, the positive and significant effect of leisure-time exercise participation level on school life adjustment was obseved in the relationship between academic stress and emotional maladjustment, uncertainty of the future career and emotional maladjustment, communication stress and social maladjustment, economical stress and social maladjustment. In conclusion, the results demonstrated the importance of considering the influence of participation of leisure-time exercise when examining the effect of stress on school maladjustment.
