일원적 세계로서의 ‘눈’ 이미지-박용래론 = ‘Snow’ Image as a Monistic World - On Park Yong-rae

국문 초록 (Abstract)

박용래의 시들에는 현실 인식 부족한 것으로 알려져 왔다. 그 결과 박용래 시인을 두고 눈물의 시인, 감성의 시인으로 지칭해 왔다. 뿐만 아니라 이런 서정성에 바탕을 둔 그의 시정신들이 협소하여 서정의 폭이 좁은 시인으로 평가되기도 했다. 그의 시들에서 이런 부분들이 어느 정도 표출되고 있기 때문에 기왕에 내려진 평가들이 크게 잘못된 것은 아니라고 할 수 있을 것이다.
하지만 그의 시들이 품고 있는 외연을 넓히게 되면, 시인이 포착해낸 서정의 폭이 그리 좁은 것은 아니다. 뿐만 아니라 시인이 응시한 현실이 뚜렷하게 제시되고 있기에 이를 외면한 것도 아니라고 할 수 있다. 그것이 가장 잘 나타나 있는 것이 그의 시에서 전략적으로 드러나는 ‘눈’ 이미지이다.
근대가 낳은 것은 일원론적 세계가 아니고 이원론적 세계이다. 이 세계란 차별이고, 위계질서적인 것들을 조장해 왔거니와 그 부정적인 양태가 양육강식과 같은 결과를 낳은 사실을 염두에 두면, 박용래가 표명한 ‘눈’ 이미지는 기왕의 평가와 달리 새로운 음역을 갖게 된다. 이를 염두에 둔다면, 눈을 통해서 사회의 구석진 곳을 평등하게 응시하고자 했던 그의 사유는 탈근대적인 것이라 보아도 무방한 경우라 할 수 있다.

Park Yong-rae’s poems have been known for their lack of awareness of reality. As a result, the poet has been referred to as a poet of tears, a poet of sentimentality. Furthermore, his poetic spirit, based on such lyricism, has been considered narrow, leading to evaluations that his poetic range is limited. Since these aspects are somewhat manifested in his poems, it can be said that the assessments previously made are not entirely wrong.
However, when one expands the scope of his poems, the range of lyricism he captured is not that limited. Moreover, the reality that the poet observes is clearly presented, so it cannot be said that he ignored it. This is most evident in the 'snow' imagery that appears strategically in his poetry.
Modernity did not produce a monistic world but a dualistic one. This world fosters differentiation and hierarchical structures, and considering that its negative aspects have resulted in outcomes like survival of the fittest, the 'snow' imagery expressed by Park Yong-rae takes on a new dimension, contrary to previous evaluations. Keeping this in mind, one could say that his contemplation, aimed at viewing even the hidden corners of society equally through the ',snow' can be regarded as postmodern.
