홍대용의 경제발전론의 현대적 조명 = Modern Illumination of Theory of Economic Development of Dae-Yong Hong

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Today, a world-wide economic slump swept all around the world as well as in Korea. Although Korea already suffered from IMF financial crisis in 1997 and the global financial debacle in 2008, Koreans still have to face insecurity about their jobs, a sharp increase in prices and stagflation. In such a economic upheaval, the wise leadership accompanied by change and innovation is necessary to solve the problems. Therefore, I shed new light on Dae-yong Hong, who studied practical matters in the Joseon Dynasty in the late 18th century and was pioneer in the field of global education and positivism. In this study, his writings were thoroughly analyzed on modern economic point of view. I mentioned in the text that his idea on economy was innovative and productive, which was unthinkable among the aristocrat (Yangban) or the commoner, on the basis of his global view of economy, scientific vision of universe, meritocratic view of management, rational opinion on the financial affairs, merit-based personnel management, life-cycle income hypothesis, infrastructure-emphasized traffic economy. In conclusion, Dae-yong Hong criticized traditional the doctrines of Chu-tzu which adopted dogmatical stand in the Joseon Dynasty period. Also he suggested several plans on the basis of positivism in the global viewpoint. Those were valuable in the interdisciplinary approach and glocalization despite of its microscopic viewpoint.
