The purpose of this research is to find and describe the psycho-social problems which the divorced women experience and their coping strategies. The subjects were fifteen women. Their ages were mostly 30's and 40's, and the causes of divorce were debauchery of ex-spouse, assult of ex-spouse, gambling, discord with husband's home. Divorced women were in-depth interviewed twice and more by a interview schedule which was structured with open question.
The divorced women experienced six problems : emotional problems, economic problems, children-related problems, social supports and sexual problems. They employed nagative coping strategies such as avoidance, self-blame to emotional problems, and somewhat problem-solving oriented strategies such as social activities, independence and support mobilizations to economic and child-related problems. For the interpersonal problems, they used coping strategies such as avoidance, social activities, and situation-specific strategies.
Generally, while the divorced women used positive coping strategies as to problem areas, most women prefered more personal and negative ones. These results provide the need to utilize more diverse coping strategies and professional intervention for the divorced women's adjustment.
