Contemporary hair art has expanded beyond the realm of simple beauty techniques into a field of formative art, developing as an artistic form that visually reinterprets the forms and emotions of nature. Nature, in particular, has long been utilized as a representative formative motif that stimulates human emotion and aesthetic awareness. Among natural elements, trees possess symbolic meanings such as life, growth, circulation, and regeneration, making them artistically valuable subjects. In addition, trees display different forms and colors according to the changes of the four seasons, creating diverse emotional images and symbolic meanings, which provide rich possibilities for formative expression.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the color image characteristics of seasonal trees and reinterpret them into the formative language of hair art for artistic production. For this purpose, theoretical considerations were conducted on the concepts and formative characteristics of trees, the concepts and symbolism of color images, and the seasonal characteristics of color. Furthermore, the emotional meanings and color image characteristics of trees in spring, summer, autumn, and winter were analyzed. In addition, the concepts and expressive characteristics of hair art were examined, and cases of hair art utilizing natural imagery were investigated to explore the possibility of expanding natural motifs into formative art.
In the production of artworks, the emotional and symbolic characteristics of each season were expressed formatively through the use of hair materials and mixed media based on the color images of seasonal trees. Spring was expressed through images of life and blooming, summer through vitality and expansion, autumn through maturity and abundance, and winter through stillness and introspection. The emotional atmosphere of each season was visualized through the harmony of color, form, and texture.
This study is significant in that it presents the artistic possibilities of hair art expression based on natural motifs and color imagery, while confirming the potential of hair art to expand into a formative art form that conveys emotion and symbolism. Furthermore, it is expected that this study will serve as foundational research material for formative studies utilizing the color images of seasonal trees and contribute to future hair art research based on eco-friendly sensibility and convergent art.
