Among the names recorded in the Sajagwancheongdeungrok (寫 字廳謄錄, Transcription Office Work Log) , there were 19 high-ranking Yangban (兩班) officials, 2 Cheongye (廳隷) and Saryeong (使令), and 153 Sajagwan(寫字官, Scribe bureaucrat). With a very small exception, the majority of Sajagwans recorded in the Sajacheongseonsaengan (寫字廳先生案, List of high-ranking Scribe bureaucrat) and the SeungjeongwonIlgi (承政院⽇記, Diary of the Royal Secretariat) from that period were included within the 153 listed above. This confirms the appropriate research subject of this paper and the significant historical value of the Sajagwancheongdeungrok . Analysis of the genealogies of these Sajagwans confirmed the oligopoly of Sajagwan held by a small number of families. By comparing this oligopoly with the oli gopoly of Sajacheongseonsaengs held by Sajagwans in the late Joseon Dynasty, we inferred that influential families experienced ups and downs in producing Sajagwans during the late Joseon Dynasty. The blood ties of Sajagwans sometimes extended beyond their immediate family, while others remained within their own. This suggests that individual ability was the most important factor in securing Sajagwan positions, with blood ties playing a secondary role. Among those majoring in the study of writing (寫字學), the percentage of those majoring in other fields of Professional technology (專門職 技術學) was slightly higher than among those majoring in other subjects, and the timing of their major changes varied. This suggests that the study of writing had no hierarchical distinction from other Professional technology. Among the Scribe bureaucrat, the child of a concubine whose status was Professional technology practician could not be found. This confirms the previous research results that Professional technology practician families monopolized the Professional technology officials in the period before 1885 (the 22nd year of King Gojong’s reign) when they were finally al lowed to take the examination to enter a Professional technology officials. There were some who advanced to civil and military govern ment positions among the Sajagwan, but they felt that Sajagwan was inferior to the Yangban officials and that their advancement to gov ernment positions could not be compared to the Yangban officials’ advancement to government positions. This confirms that a clear gap in status existed between the Yangban and Professional technology practician during this period. Changes in the qualifications for entering the Professional technology position began to appear in 1885 (the 22nd year of King Gojong’s reign), the year following the GapsinCoup (甲申 政變). It was suggested that future research is needed to determine whether such changes were caused by the Gapsin Coup
