The reaction of benzoic acid(BA) with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) in the presence of cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTMAB) was studied.
It ws found that the reaction was in good agreement with first order kinetics, according to -d〔BA〕dt=K〔CTMAB〕〔GMA〕and apparent activation energy was about 20.6 ㎉/㏖.
The triethylbenzyl ammonium chloride (TEBAC) catalyzed reaction, proceeds at a slower rate than the reaction in the presence of CTMAB.
The plausibe reaction mechanism was discussed on the basis of experimental data obtained.
