All men must die. The meaning of death and attitudes of people toward it, however, are different depending on culture, and even within the same culture they are different depending on age, health, the personal values and philosophy, temper, situation, religion and such others. This study seeks to find out what is a good death and what is not and how people perceive self-esteem differently. The study showed that a good death includes: to die of old age, to die at the age of 81-90, to die at home, to die without pain, to maintain an independent living, to know when death is coming and to understand what can be expected, to have a religious life, to have one s own opinion reflected, to die with one s own family around, to leave a will, to avoid excessive medical care expenditure, to be under hospice care, However, a pointless prolonged life with life extension technology was not included in good death. Based on the findings, the study makes the following three suggestions: First, death education should be provided to the elderly so as for them to be prepared for their own death. Second, religious services, hospice services, and pain management should be provided to the elderly in order for them to relieve the fear of their own death. Third, death experts should be trained to help the elderly in dying a good death.
