This study employs a spatial autoregressive model to explore if FDI into a host country may depend on the FDI in proximate countries with Korea`s outward FDI. Such spatial interdependence has been largely ignored by the empirical Korea FDI literature. This paper conducts a spatial autoregressive relationships in empirical FDI models using data from 57 countries on Korea outward FDI activity across world. The results shows that estimated relationships of traditional determinants of FDI are robust to inclusion of terms to capture spatial interdependence. Moreover, it reveals the pattern of Korea`s outward FDI tends toward a complex FDI with third-country effects. However, this paper finds that both the traditional determinants of FDI and the estimated spatial interdependence are quite sensitive to the subsample of countries by region. This study concludes that both traditional variables and the spatial interdependence have different effects on Korea`s outward FDI. It suggests that the better results are derived by overall sample of countries rathe than the subsample experiments.
