아바타'와 동양사상 그리고 생태복지 = A Study on the Oriental Thoughts and the Ecological Ethics in the Film ‘AVATAR'

국문 초록 (Abstract)

영화 <아바타>는 정치적.사회적.종교적으로 많은 논의의 대상이 되고있지만 무엇보다 생태에 관련한 많은 화두를 던져주고 있는 영화이다. 물질주의적 소유욕에 눈이 먼 인간들과 정령주의적 무소유의 가치를 소중히 여기는 나비족들 간의 전쟁은 곧 자연을 파괴하려는 자와 자연을 지키려는 자의 대립으로 요약된다. 과거 아바타가 간절한 신앙에 대한 구원의 응답이었듯이 현대의 아바타도 현대인의 바람을 담고 있다. 그런 점에서 볼 때 <아바타>는 욕망의 늪을 탈출해 생태계 본연의 조화와 평화를 희구하는 인간의 소망을 그린것이라 분석할 수 있을 것이며, 이는 지금까지 인간의 지식영역을 지배해 온‘환원주의’및‘이분법적 사고’에 대한 비판이기도 하다. 즉 기계주의 세계관에 대한 도전으로, 지금까지 자행된 생태계 자연파괴행위의 중심에 이분법적-환원론적 사유가 그 중심에 있다는 것을 고발하는 것이다. 이에 영화 <아바타>에 나타난 인간과 자연의 관계를 생태계의 복원이라는 입장에서 노장사상적 관점에 기초하여 살펴보고자 한다. 이는 곧 지구 생태계의 회복과 정립을 향해 아바타에 담겨진 현시대 생태환경윤리의 좌표와 전망을 살펴보고자 함이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study aims to investigate the Oriental Thoughts and the Ecological ethics presented in the film 'Avatar', especially focusing on the Lao-tzu and Chang-tzu's View of Nature. The modern environmental crisis is originated from the western-view of nature which is characterized by the mechanic dichotomy between human and nature. To solve the environmental problems and restore our ecosystem, we need to shift the present world-view of nature. The film "Avatar' highlights that the human kind should not view and treat the nature as the subject to be conquered and exploited. Taoism, including Lao-tzu and Chang-tzu need to be revitalized to overcome the western perspectives of ecologism and to recognize the cooperative partnership between human and nature. The Orientalism is evaluated to discard the dichotomizing view that has persisted in the western hemisphere. Finally 'Avatar' implies human's wrong sense of value that man should be set as a priority above all need to be
corrected and the eco-environmental ethics should be derived from the Oriental Thoughts to overcome the current environmental crisis.
