대한뉴스의 인천기록에 대한 비판적 고찰

This article is a critical study on the ways in which Daehan News records and represents Incheon, which is a neighbour city of Seoul, the capital of Korea and the third biggest city of it now. This study scrutinizes how the identity of Incheon had been formed in Daehan News, which had made various records of political, social, and cultural issues from 1945 to 1994. Daehan News was a medium of political propaganda under the direct control of governments. In the second half of the 20th century, Korean governments actively exploited the technology of film medium in order to let people know a policy of governments as well as persuade the public to bring forward a motion for the government. In this course, Incheon had been recorded and represented by the news. This study finds out around 150 news items relating to Incheon and investigates them in a way of pinning down the identity of Incheon. This study comprises of three parts. Frist, it briefly maps out the history of Daehan News. From 1945 to 1994, the title of the news as well as the period of making news were revised several times. At the same time looking at the history of Daehan News, it also explores criticism that the news had been often confronted. Second, it explores the formal characteristic of the news in a way of how the meaning of the news is produced and delivered to audience. In doing this, it uses the documentary theory of Bill Nichols. It is discussed that the news takes a typical expository mode of documentary, which utilizes titles or commentary that proposes a perspective, advance an argument, or recount history. Third, it analyzes the news clips relating to Incheon into four categories. By examining the image and sound of the news, it argues that the news defines the identity of Incheon as the symbolic region of Korean industrialization, anticommunism, the capital-labor conciliation. In addition, this study discovers a mount of historical images of Incheon that are hardly found in other media. Daehan News is a representation of the real world. In order to find how people understand and interpret the real world, nowadays it is necessary to examine how representational texts such as novel, newspaper, film are produced as well as the ways in which the meaning of the text are constructed and delivered. This is because representing media plays a key role in directing our understanding of the real world. In this respect, this study of the news could be a starting point to inclusively investigate how Incheon has been represented in various media as well as how people have understood Incheon via them.
