Psychosocial Factors and Marital Satisfaction

This study, involving 93 married couples, measured the relationship between marital satisfaction and several psychosocial factors, including depression, self-esteem, social support, and marital communication patterns. The researchers found that the level of academic achievement varied directly with positive measures of psychosocial factors and marital satisfaction. Social support was the most important variable affecting marital satisfaction of both partners; other variables had differential effects on the marital satisfaction of husbands and wives. Couples with the highest marital satisfaction had the highest self-esteem, felt the most support from society, and were the most likely of all the couples to use mutual constructive communication.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 부부의 심리사회적 요인과 결혼만족도와의 관계를 알아보기 위하여, 부부 93쌍을 대상으로 인구통계학적 변인, 우울, 자아 존중감, 사회적 지지, 의사소통 행동 과 결혼만족도와의 관계를 측정했다. 수집된 자료를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 남편과 아내는 인구통계학적 변인 중 학력과 결혼만족도 간에 유의미한 정적인 관계가 나타났고, 아내의 경우, 결혼기간이 결혼만족도와 유의미한 부적 관계를 나타냈다. 둘째, 남편과 아내의 결혼만족도에 영향을 미치는 효과에는 차이가 나타났으며, 그 변인들 중 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 변인은 남편과 아내 모두 사회적 지지로 나타났다. 마지막으로, 결혼만족이 높은 집단과 낮은 집단에 따른 차이를 살펴본 결과, 남편-아내 모두 결혼만족이 높은 집단은 다른 세 집단에 비해 자아 존중감이 높았고, 사회적 지지를 많이 받는다고 지각하고 있었다. 의사소통 중에서는 상호 건설적 의사소통을 가장 많이 사용하는 것으로 나타났다.
