농촌사회의 현재적 기능과 잠재적 기능

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 농촌사회의 현재적 기능과 잠재적 기능에 대한 이론의 재구성과 재구성된 이론에 기초한 실증 분석을 통해 농촌공간이 축적하고 있는 제반 요소가 가지고 있는 잠재적 기능의 현재적 기능화에 대한 가능성을 분석하는데 있다. 본 연구에서는 다음과 같은 연구 주제들에 대해 실증분석에 기초한 이론적 정립을 목표로 하고 있다. 농촌사회의 산업활동과 기능적 변화는 2/3차 산업의 성장과 도시화에 따른 불가피성인가 농촌사회의 인구 및 산업의 변화가 선진국에서 경험한 진화론적 규범(evolutionary paradigm)과 일치하고 있는가 정치경제학적 시각에서 조명하고 있는 도시에 대한 공간적 시각의 갈등론적 규범(conflict paradigm)은 한국 농촌사회 변화에 얼마나 기여하고 있는가 최근 시장가치 구현이 가능하리라고 판단되는 농촌공간의 재화 및 용역의 효용성 제고는 주기론적 규범(cyclical paradigm)에 입각한 농촌사회에 대한 변화의 가능성을 설명하고 있는가 적정규모도시에 대한 이론적/실증적 논쟁은 한국 농촌사회의 미래 기능 재설정에 어떤 연관성을 가지고 있는가 나아가 본 연구는 학술적 측면에서 이러한 이론들의 한국농촌사회 변화과정에 대한 적용과 새로운 이론의 정립 가능성 및 필요성을 연구하고, 또한 기존의 사회변화에 관해 구축된 다양한 학술적 이론에 입각해 실증분석을 시도하였다.
본 연구에서 수행한 구체적인 세부연구과제는 다음과 같다: 농업·농촌의 도시혼잡비용 감소 효과 추정, 투입재로서의 농업용수의 가치 분석, 지역별 제조업 생산성 비교를 통해서 본 적정 도시규모 분석, 식품가공산업을 통해서 본 농촌의 집적경제 및 지역화 경제 효과, 도시지역과 농촌지역의 소득불평등도 비교 분석, 지역간 생산성 격차의 동태적 분석, 논농업 유지가 가지는 경관가치 분석, 도시와 농촌 간의 고용기회 결정요인 분석, 도농간 고용기회 차이 분석, 친환경적 농업생산의 의사결정 요인 분석, 농촌 정보화 결정요인 및 지역간 차이의 분석, 농업의 농촌경관유지 기능 가치 분석, 도시와 농촌의 통근 행태 비교, 생산양식과 농촌사회의 변화에 대한 이론적 고찰, 농촌개발의 국제간 비교, 우리나라 농촌개발 과정에 대한 이론적 고찰, 농촌발전과정과 농어촌구조개선 사업에 대한 고찰, 농촌사회 이해에 대한 이론적 고찰, 농촌과 도시의 공존에 대한 이론적 고찰, 농촌연구의 학제간 접근법 비교 분석, 농업 농촌 연구의 미시분석 방법에 대한 이론적 고찰, 농업 및 농촌사회의 기능에 대한 이론 재정립 연구.
총 2년에 걸쳐 수행된 본 연구의 주요 세부과제에 대한 연구 결과는 국내외 학술발표대회에서 발표된 바 있으며, 최종 연구결과는 1권의 단행본과 총 20편의 전문 학술지 논문으로 출판되었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to investigate theoretically and empirically the explicit and implicit functions of rural society. Specifically, this study aims to answer the following questions. Are the changes in the function and industrial activities of rural society the inevitable results of urbanization and growth of manufacturing and service industry Are the changes in population and industrial structure in Korean rural society compatible with the evolutionary paradigm that many developed countries have experienced. Or does the conflict paradigm adopting the viewpoint of political economics on the urban space explain better the changes of Korean rural society Or can the cyclical paradigm provide a theoretical foundation to value the multi-functionality of the rural society and to predict the future image of rural society What is the implication of the optimum-city-size debate on re-establishing the function of Korean rural society in the future Beside the theoretical investigation, we have taken many empirical analysis to look at the applicability of our theoretical findings to the changes in Korean rural society.
The specific subjects that this study have tackled are as follows; the effects of agriculture and rural society on the reduction of urban congestion costs; the value of agricultural water inputs; the optimum city size in Korea for the performance of regional manufacturing industry; agglomeration and localization economies in the food processing industry; income inequality in rural and urban areas; dynamic changes in productivity of regional industry; amenity value of rice farming; the determinant of job opportunity in rural and urban areas; differences in job opportunity between rural and urban areas; factors affecting the choice of organic farming; the determinants and variability of rural information system; the value of the amenity of rural society; the differences in travel mode choice between urban and rural households; a theoretical approach on the changes of the mode of production and the rural society; rural development in Korea and Europe; theoretical issues on the rural development in Korea; rural development and policy reforming the agricultural structure in Korea; theoretical approach on the coexistence of rural and urban societies; interdisciplinary approach in rural study; issues on the micro approach for the study of rural and agricultural sector; theoretical issues on the functions of rural society and agriculture.
The results of this study were presented at academic conferences and published in one book and twenty academic papers.
