Emperor Yingzong (reign 1320-1323) was enthroned by his grandmother, Empress Dagi(答己, ?-1322), and powerful vassal Temuder(鐵木迭兒, ?-1322) in the middle of the Yuan Dynasty. Therefore, he was placed in a position in which he was not able to exercise strong power after his accession to the throne. To overcome this situation, Yingzong sought talented people who could assist him from his days as the crown prince. One of those people was Baiju (1298-1323). It is important to note that from his young days, Baiju inherited the position of Captain of the Third Kesig(怯薛), which meant that he could assume control over the guards who belonged to him. After being appointed as a Junior Chief Councilor of the Central Secretariat, Baiju exerted his military power to repress the plot to dethrone Yingzong. Later, he also played a leading role in creating a diversion against Temuder. Moreover, as he took charge of the functions related to national rituals, he used his experience and ability to establish Yingzong’s authority through the ritual. Yingzong received crucial help from Baiju in the process of breaking free from the bondage of the forces that had crowned him king and of imposing his own authority.
