한국 3대 종교(가톨릭․개신교․불교)의 생태문화 - 자연영성(불성)에 토대한 생태문화 조사 및 발전방안 모색 -

국문 초록 (Abstract)

(1) 환경재앙과 생태계 파괴문제는 전 지구적 관심사이며 각국 지도자들은 그 대안 마련에 부심해왔다. 우리나라 또한 이 문제에 대해 예외가 될 수 없었다. 실현 가능성과 더불어 실천 가능한 방법들이 수없이 제시되었으나 시행착오 또한 적지 않다. 자연과 자원 및 문화유산들을 보전하거나 전통을 계승을 호소하지만, 이에 대응되는 개발과 소비 또한 도외시 할 수 없다. 이에 대한 문제해결은 정신적 문제, 더 나아가 심리적 요인에 호소해야 하는 방식이 효과적다.
(2) 생태학적 입장에서 고찰할 때, 종교는 인간의 정신 영역을 제어하며 또한 강력하게 영향을 미친다. 이것이 생태학을 중심으로 한국 3대 종교의 학자들이 연구진을 구성하게 된 주요 요인이다. 불교․개신교․가톨릭 신자 수는 97%로서 한국 종교인구의 대부분을 차지한다. 관련 학자들이 해당 종교의 교리와 생태문제를 연결하고 이를 적용 가능하도록 제시하는 것이 당연하며 또한 의무이다.
(3) 본 연구팀은 한국 3대 종교를 관통하며 생태문제에 대응할 수 있는 연구주제는 자연영성(自然靈性) 및 불성(佛性)이 효율적이라고 결론 내렸다. 각 종교의 교주들은 영성(불성)을 통하여 교도들의 육체적 정신적 존재를 인정함과 동시에 사물과 생명체에 대하여 경외(敬畏)하도록 한 교리체계이다. 학자들과 성직자들이 쉽게 접근할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 해당 교도들도 이해 가능한 주제이다.
(4) 보다 더 중요한 것은 자연영성(불성) 문제를 통하여 교도들로 하여금 생태학적 삶을 영위하게 하며, 또한 생태문화의 저변확대인 점이다. 생태문제에 대한 교리적 연구뿐만 아니라 종교단체 및 종교인에 대한 사회과학적 조사가 도입되어야 할 당위성이다. 따라서 본 연구는 자연스럽게 종교별․분야별 학제 간 복합적 연구를 통해 새로운 생태문화 창출이 가능했다.
(5) 연구주제는 ‘한국 3대종교[가톨릭․개신교․불교]의 생태문화’이며, 부제로서 ‘자연영성에 토대한 생태문화 조사 및 발전방안 모색’이다. 종사 연구자는 책임연구자 1명과, 공동연구인력 5명이며, 전임연구인력은 7명으로서 총13명으로 구성하였다. 연구기간은 2005년 9월부터 2006년 8월까지 2년간이며, 한국학술진흥재단에서 지원하는 중형과제이다. 효율적인 연구수행을 위하여 한국의 3대 종교와 관련이 깊은 대학 및 연구소가 컨소시엄을 구성한 형태이다. 가톨릭대학교(가톨릭, 인간학연구소)․한신대학교(개신교, 학술원)․동국대학교(불교, 불교문화연구원)이 공동연구기관으로서 해당 기관들은 행정지원을 아끼지 않았다.
(6) 연구과제는 모두 3단계로 구성하였다. 제1단계는 [이론 및 교리연구]로서 연구자가 소속된 종교의 자연영성(불성)의 이론적 토대를 구축하였다. 제2단계는 [실태 및 의식조사]로서 한국의 3대 종교의 생태문화 현황과 생태의식에 대한 조사이다. 제3단계는 [연구의 적용]으로서 그 간 축적된 연구 성과를 기반으로 자연영성(불성)의 생태학적 적용 및 새로운 문화창출을 제시하였다.
(7) 효율적인 연구 수행을 위해 연구책임자를 중심으로 3대 종교의 대표모임을 구성하였다. 격월에 걸친 연찬회와 함께 임시 연구모임을 통해 연구일정 및 연구방향을 논의하였다. 계절별로 워크샵을 개최하였으며, 전문가 초빙을 통한 콜로키움, 학술발표 및 질의와 재반론, 사회과학적 조사 연구 방식에 대한 모임 등을 통해 연구 업적을 축적할

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

1. The research title of our team is 'A Study on the Ecological Culture of the Three Major Religions (Roman Catholic, Protestant, Buddhism)' and its subtitle is 'An Investigation of Ecological Culture based on Nature Spirituality and Its Plan for Improvement'. The research staff was composed of 13 including a chief researcher, five joint research personnel, and seven full-time research personnel. The research took two years from September in 2005 to August in 2006 and was the middle project sponsored by Korea Research Foundation. For efficient implementation, it established consortium with Universities and Institutions which were close to three major religions in Korea. They were The Catholic university (Catholic, Anthropology Institute), Hansin University (Protestantism, Academy), and Dongguk University (Buddhism, Buddhist Research Institute) and gave support to this research with earnest.
2. The research issue was composed of three steps. The first step was [A theory and Dogmatic Research], in which I established a theoretical foundation for nature spirituality (Nature of Buddha) to which I belong. The second step was [Investigation of the status and awareness], in which I investigated the status of ecological culture and ecological awareness of the three major religions in Korea. The third step was [Application of the research], in which I suggested ecological application of nature spirituality (Nature of Buddhist) on the base of accumulated results of studies and new creation of culture.
3. I made a representative meeting for the three major religions on the base of chief researcher to implement efficient research. We discussed on research schedule and direction by temporary research meeting and seminars bimonthly. In addition, we opened workshop per season and could accumulate research achievement by colloquium, academic presentation, inquiry, sur-rebuttal, and the meeting for the method of social and scientific investigation with invited specialists.
The presentations of research were reported on the journal by their specialty and also all the theses were integrated into a book. We published a journal, 'The religion, ecology, and spirituality' (Publisher: A seed of life) and an academic report, 'Ecological crisis, religion, and culture' (Publisher: A seed of life) on the base of the first year's research result. The second year's research result is getting ready for the publication at present, in February, 2008.
