컴패션(Compassion)의 태동에 관한 연구 : 1952-1965년 에버렛 스완슨(Everett Swanson)의 전쟁고아 구호활동을 중심으로 = The Beginning of Compassion International : Focusing on Everett Swanson’s Activities between 1952 and 1965

This study aims to examine the motive and background for the establishment of Compassion International, one of the four major external foreign aid organizations that provided relief and care for orphans during and after the Korean war, as well as its growth process and major activities. It traces the activities of the founder, Everett Swanson, from 1952 to 1965, and focuses on the origins and early history of Compassion. By tracking the activities of Compassion and Everett Swanson, who became one of the de facto leaders at a time of turbulence, when the number of orphans had soared and the state was unable to provide real relief and care, this study aims to demonstrate that Compassion International played a siginificant role in the formation of post-war Korean society.
In this study, Everett Swanson’s personal diaries and letters, sermons, family testimonies, newspaper materials, and board reports, and interviews with members and beneficiaries at the time of establishment of Compassion International and with the current management team are used as the main sources of data.
