    [Purpose]This study aims to propose measures for the activation of sound data utilization based on the investigation of major cases and analysis of issues, as interest in sound data is growing.
    [Methodology]This study identified the definition and characteristics of sound data, examined existing utilization cases and issues, and then suggested recommendations for the activation of sound data utilization.
    [Findings]An investigation of sound data utilization cases abroad revealed that utilization is actively taking place in areas such as securing safety, enhancing health and welfare, strengthening national defense, and industrial efficiency, mainly in advanced countries. Through issue analysis, five main issues were identified: diversification of national security threats, increased threats to public safety, industrial efficiency, increased social demands related to health and welfare of vulnerable groups, and increased and diversified disasters. These issues were also confirmed through major international utilization cases.
    [Implications]The study provided basic characteristics and life cycles of sound data to activate related research, identified key areas that require activation based on recent major issues and utilization cases, and finally suggested measures for the activation of sound data utilization.
