      Sediment transportation process has been active throughout geological time. Both the forest fire and the volcano-eruption can change the river bed due to the variation of sediment transportation. Since this only happens in rare cases, most of the engineers concern themselves to the bed changes causing by human activities like dredging in the water way and structure-construction in the river basin. In order to estimate the effect of these factors on river bed accurately, it is important to predict and analyse the river bed changes.
      Recently, S. Korea is underway on the Four Major River Restoration Project to prepare for the climatic changes, plan symbiotic relationship between the nature and human, renew the country, balance each territories, and build a basis for the green growth. At the same time, due to the insufficiency of water for about 1 billion is expected by the year 2016, we have to insure the sufficient amount of water resource. Therefore, by installing the dredging and weirs in Han, Nakdong, Geum, Yeongsan rivers, we are trying to increase the sufficient amount of water for public use for up to 1.3 billion .
      Among the rest, submerged weirs(Geumnam, Buyeo, Geumgang weirs) are planned to be installed newly in Geum river basin. Cases like Geumnam weir, Geumgang 1 Bridge and Geumgang 2 Bridge are under construction at its height where the expected place for the weir’s lower stream and the upper stream is located. So A huge change of the river bed is expected when five structures between 2.9km starting from Geumnam Bridge are completed.
      Geumnam gauging station is installed in Geumnam bridge, which is one of many gauging stations installed in Geum River basin. If those structures make a huge change in river bed, Geumnam gauging station would no longer have the trustworthy in its accuracy.
      To examine about the continue use of the Geumnam gauging station and be a basic data for structures-built in river area, in this study, river bed height variation due to the constructions of weir and bridges was simulated for short term prediction using 2D numerical model of SED-2D and for long term prediction using 1D numerical model of HEC-RAS.
      As a result of the simulations, the bed elevation of the cross section where Geumnam Bridge layed on was turned to 8.63m in ten years in Case 2. It is 0.33m higher than the result simulated without new structures. The cross section, however, decreased 0.7m during ten years in Case 2 comparing with 0.11m in Case 1. Therefore, the measurements need alternative solutions in the future, like updating the stage-discharge relation curve.
