After the 6th century, Silla advance into Han-river. It was be the unification of the three states. In this process, Silla had a fierce battle with Goguryeo(高句麗) and Beakje(百濟).
Such as evidence about that situation, There are lots of remains that related to Silla's advance into Han-rive. Through continuous excavation, These character have became clear.
Still now, The Silla pottery study is focusing Youngnam area in the 4th~5th century, but after 6C, The study of Silla pottery is relatively scanty. Especilly, among this, The Inhwamun(印花文) pottery study is immaterial.
The Inhwamun is a representative attribute of the unified Silla pottery. It shows us culture diffusion Gyeongju that time's capital and Seoul and Gyeonggi the fastest growing area after the unification.
This paper's time range is the period after in the mid-9th~10th century and space range is Seoul·Gyeonggi area. In particular, It laid emphasis on the Inhwamun pottery stage that come to stay. Before discussion about appearance of the Inhwamun pottery, I analyzed the former Silla style pottery. A mounted bowl(臺附盌) is derived from a mounted dish(高杯). Its part of the dish(杯身) was getting more deep and the part of the foot(pedestal) was getting shorter.
Generally, A two-stairs mounted dish has holes that remains the former Silla style has high foot.
I divided into four phases through a formation of archaeological sites are followed by Silla advance into Han-river and a change of pottery and a inflow and decline of the Inhwamun.
First stage is the Silla pottery inflow phase with advance into Han-river. It is checked up remains are relative with a northern entry of silla. these are Pocheon Banwol Fortress, Paju Sungdong-ri tomb and Beopheung-ri Tomb. Also, It was excavated Yongin Halmi Fortress and Bojeong-ri sosil Tomb in the north Gyeonggi area. This stage is from the 6th to the early part of the 7th century, It appears an intensive triangle pattern(三角集線文) and a compasses circle shaped pattern(Compass圓弧文) before a appearence the Inhwamun.
Next stage is the time that Seoul·Gyeonggi area is included complete a Silla's scope of influence. A mounted dish(高杯) type has changed and a mounted bowl(臺附盌) comes into being. It has a unity class Inhwamun such as a waterdrop shaped pattern(水滴形文), a horse hoof shaped pattern(馬蹄形文), and a circle pattern(圓弧文), and has length serial patterns(縱長連續文) such as dot line patterns(點列文). These are in Seoul and Gyeonggi sites except Paju Sungdong-ri tomb in the west-north area. It appear to start Paju Beopheung-ri Tomb. Also Banwal Fortress that seems a executive office of west-north area has artifacts before period but actively improve it in unified Silla because there are relics of Ⅲ stage from this time.
And besides, It intensively has this time artifacts in Daemo, Iseong, Acha, Sulsung Fortress and Sulbong Fortress, Also Gwangam-dong Tomb, Yeoju Haguh-ri Bangmigigol Tomb, Hwaseong Cheoncheon-ri Tomb, Anseong Banje-ri Tomb nearby Iseong Fortress have this time relics.
However, It slowly decreased and disappeared in Bojeong-ri Sosil Tomb near by Halmi Fortress after the early part of the 7th century. It can not find artifacts after this time. This is the first half of the 7th~the early part of the 8th century before and after the Silla unification.
After the unification period by Silla, this area keep to stabilize under its influence. and the site is distributed widely in Seoul and Gyeonggi area. This time is the stage that the Inhwamun is engraved splendidly. But it is not more various than Gyeongju that time's capital. It is steady seens in Daemo, Iseong, Acha and Banwal Fortress, and become the 8th century, It slowly disappear in Gogang-dong Tomb, Gwangam-dong Tomb and Banje-ri Tomb. This period is the period from the first half to the end of the 8th century.
Lastly, It had deepen a struggle for power between the aristocracy, the local revolt, and started to divide into the late three states(後三國). This is the third stage. By reason of such, A mounted bowl burnt softness relatively to before, And a Inhwamun start to decay. Moreover, It sprang up bottles have various shape.
There are artfacts of the 9th century in Iseong, Daemo, Banwal Fortress and etc. I think that Sungbokdong kiln's artfacts are include it.
Before the early part of the 10th century, Silla pottery disappear slowely. And It has gone to Goryeo(高麗). this period is the early part of the 9th century~ the early part of the 10th century.
Seoul and Gyeonggi area is a bridgehead spot for a advance to the west-north.
However, Because these area is a outside of Silla, The Inhwamun pottery does not develop various.
According to excavated artifacts in Seoul·Gyeonggi area, There are vary few Inhwamun pottery is engraved width serial patterns(橫長連續文), concrete shaped patterns(具象文) and four-petal shaped patterns(四弁花文).
If the excavation of Silla unified period is more activitly in Seoul and Gyeonggi area, It will be able to supplement.
After that, This study is able to make progress toward the diffusion of Inhwamun pottery from Youngnam area and the asupply-demand relation of potterys to each areas. I would like to try to research hereafter.
