한국 텔레비전 방송의 외래어 프로그램 이름에 대한 언어학적 분석 = A Linguistic Analysis of the Korean TV Program Titles in Loan Words

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The influence of TV on our life is inestimable. It affects our whole life from thinking to culture. Especially, language used on TV plays an important role in changing viewers' thinking and culture. Considering this fact, this study aims at criticising and correcting the inappropriate use of loan words for the titles of a number of Korean TV programs.
The result of this study shows that the rate of Korean TV stations' use of loan words for their program titles is higher in the following order: iTV>KBS2-TV>SBS-TV>MBC-TV>KBS1- TV. It has been found out that 61.2% of the total programs under investigation use loan words. The rate of the TV stations' use of only loan words for their program titles is higher in the following order: iTV>KBS2-TV>SBS-TV>MBC-TV>KBS1-TV. As many as 26% of the whole programs are shown to use only loan words for their program titles. The TV program titles using Korean alone amounts to only 2.6%.
The above findings show that TV stations have neglected their responsibility to value and love our native language. Also it has been shown that a number of the program titles in loan words are not only hard for ordinary people to understand but also wrong. This problem is discussed in detail in the paper. I suggest that Korean should be used for the TV program titles instead of loan words as far as possible and loan words should not be used so imprudently.
