Diet management is an essential component for not only individuals who want to maintain a good body by losing weight, but also certain diet management such as muscle mass and diabetes. As a result, it is necessary to organize various tips distributed online so that they can be easily viewed by users and to establish a fact verification system for reliable information.
Methods: In this study, the double diamond design process was applied as a methodology. First, in order to discover problems, a theoretical basis was established through the state of diet management, related app services, and case studies. In addition, in-depth interviews and surveys were conducted with users who have experienced in diet management. Second, to define the problem, the data were classified by the affinity diagram and insights were drawn. Third, to develop a service plan to increase the efficiency, it was considered competitor analysis, brand positioning, and business model canvas. Three personas were set and service scenarios were created to develop concepts. Fourth, an app process was proposed in the form of prototype to improve the problem according to the insights in the delivery stage.
Results: As a result of the analysis, the application functions proposed six categories: personalized optimization, data automation, integration, notification, visualization of segmented analysis, and community. First, the importance of customized features for three classified user groups was derived. Second, the simplification and automation of data input were confirmed. Third, integration and data synchronization with other health apps or wearable devices were required. Fourth, minimal essential notifications that can be practically utilized were needed, and fifth, segmented analysis of nutrient ratios and dietary components, as well as intuitive visualization were found. Sixth, a reward system was established to provide motivation and achievement through the community.
Conclusion: Diet has been focused on as an important concern and a direct impact on a healthy life. As individuals age, they engage in reflections on survival, and the minimal effort one can make to maintain health is the establishment of wise dietary habits. Based on the six core functions, the proposed app process can provide systematic support for effective diet management, enabling users not only to achieve the goal of weight loss and overcome obesity but also to facilitate the relief and recovery of chronic diseases and enhance quality of life throughout their lifespan ultimately.
