Women's social position in the period of Yi dynasty was influenced by the Confucian doctrine of man-high-woman-low. The relationship between wife and husband in this period was not maintained by a human relationship of equality and companionship, but was maintained by control and obedience hierarchically. I have tried to study how the man-high-woman-low doctrine influenced the society of the Yi dynasty, in connection with the following 13 parts.
1. Women in this period were directed by the Confucian moral of man-high-woman-low, and accordingly they were restrained in their social advancement.
2. Segregation of men from women.
3. The time of marriage, remarriage of both men and women, and divorce.
4. The adoptive child after death and inheritance.
5. The cause of promoting the early marriage custom.
6. The origin of the early marriage custom.
7. Why the early marriage custom was changed.
8. The procedure of marriage.
9. Restriction of marriage.
10. The position of the concubine, the fundamental cause of promoting concu binage, and the position of their children.
11. How the Korean people placed a high value on having a son.
12. The position of second wives.
13. The custom of carrying widows on the back.
In conclusion; the degree of civilization of the age may be measured by the woman's position in the society.
