Recently, ethics events in business, government, religious organization, and even profit making corporations have made people be more concerned about ethical leadership. Many managers understand the importance of ethical leadership and they are trying to use it as an implement for developing their organization. Thus far little empirical research focuses on an ethical dimension of leadership. Therefore, this study reviewed conceptual definitions of ethical leadership and examined the connections of ethical leadership with trust in leader and organizational citizenship behavior.
I investigate the main purpose of this study. Firstly the ethical leadership does affect trust in leader and organizational citizenship behavior. Secondly trust in leader does affect organizational citizenship behavior. Thirdly trust in leader can perform a mediating role in the relationship between ethical leadership and organizational citizenship behavior.
To perform this empirical study, the following model was established and the data for statistical analysis was collected from 291 employees of 45 public enterprise and private enterprise through a self-reporting questionnaire.
Initially four hypotheses were developed and in the result of examinations, all hypotheses were accepted, major findings of this study can be summarized as follows.
Firstly in the relationship among ethical leadership, trust in leader and organizational citizenship behavior which is composed of altruism, courtesy and conscientiousness. Secondly, the more subordinates trust their leader the more the organization has organizational citizenship behavior. Thirdly, trust in leader acts as a mediating role in the relationship between ethical leadership and organizational citizenship behavior, especially as a full mediating role for organizational citizenship behavior.
The results of this study propose that leaders should try to have ethical leadership for organizational citizenship behavior and they must make an effort to earn trust of subordinates through practicing ethical behavior. This research is empirical studies and showed outcomes of ethical leadership. In conclusion, this study will be able to help future studies on ethical leadership.
