      From the 2002 university entrance examination, the Information Technology Literacy Certificate for the high school students will be in practice for freshman of high school students this year. Four ways of achieving the certificate is introduced and the current situation for the It education was in vestige ted into four categories: hardware, network, teacher training and software. AbouT34% of academic high school students and 100% of commercial high school students take Information Industry or related subject matters who are then eligible for this new certificate. In order to investigate the situation in details, Chungbuk province was sampled for the information about hardware distribution, teacher``s educational background, and the way school chooses for the certificate among the four alternatives. Most of schools choose the first option which is to offer the computer course as a part of the regular curriculum. The majority of the It teacher``s educational background is based on the 180hours of training which can cause the limitation of the expert knowledge in instructing It related courses. Coherent curriculum for K-12 is recommended with other strong suggestion of emphasis of network facilities and the applications of Linux environment. Certificate policy should include levels of certificate for the incentives of the students with various It knowledge.
