신석정과 백석 시의 비교 연구 : (‘유토피아’의 표현 양상을 중심으로) = A Comparative Study of Shin Seok-jeong and Baek Seok Poetry - Focusing on the expression aspect of ‘utopia’

국문 초록 (Abstract)

한국 현대시에서 유토피아에 대한 추구와 연구는 주요 주제 중의 하나이다. 이상향으로서의 유토피아에 대한 문학적 상상은 대체로 자연을 상정하고 구체적인 공간을 상상하는 것이 일반이었다. 이 논문은 한국 현대시에 나타난 유토피아가 단순히 장소로서의 공간의 문제인가 하는 문제를 백석과 신석정 시에 나타난 유토피아의 표현 양상을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 일제 강점기를 산 두 시인을 비교함으로써 현대시에 나타난 유토피아 의식을 좀 더 선명하게 드러낼 수 있을 것이다. 유토피아의 표현 양상을 비교하는데 있어서 백석과 신석정의 시를 사례로 드는 이유는 그들이 공통적으로 동양적 상상력에 기반하고 있으면서, 유토피아에 대한 표현 양상이 차이를 보인다는 점에 기인한다. 신석정의 시에는 자연 혹은 그에 버금가는 어떤 곳을 이상향으로 제시하는 경우가 많다. 그의 시에서 문제적인 것은 그런 공간에 사람이 있느냐 없느냐 하는 것이다. 초기 시에서 사람이 부재하는 공간으로서 이상향을 상상함으로써 다소 관념에 치우쳤다면, 후기 시에서는 비교적 사람의 냄새가 나는 이상향을 상상하고 있다. 반면 백석의 경우는 구체적인 공간으로 나타나는 것이 아니라, 관계에 의해 드러나고 있다. 그 관계는 유년 시절의 친족 간의 관계는 물론, 타지에서 만난 사람과의 관계, 사물들과의 관계 등 다양하게 나타난다. 따라서 백석에게 있어서 이상향은 어떤 장소로서 기능하기보다는, 그곳이 어떤 곳이라도 사람 혹은 사물과의 관계맺기에 따라 이상적인 곳이 될 수도 있고 안 될 수도 있다는 것을 보여준다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The pursuit and study of utopia in contemporary Korean poetry is one of the main themes. The literary imagination of utopia as an ideal is generally assumed to be nature and to imagine concrete space. This paper examines the question of whether the utopia in contemporary Korean poetry is simply a matter of space as a place, focusing on the expression of utopia in the poems of Baek Seok and Shin Seok-jeong. By comparing two poets who lived during the Japanese colonial period, the utopia rituals of modern poetry can be revealed more clearly. The reason for using Baek Seok and Shin Seok-jeong's poems as examples in comparing Utopia's expression patterns is that they are based on oriental imagination, and the expression style of utopia is different. In the case of Shin Seok-jeong's poems, nature or something like that is often presented as an ideal. The problem in his poem is whether or not there are people in such a space. If the ideal was somewhat biased by imagining the ideal as an absent space in the early poems, the latter poems are imagining the ideal of a relatively human beings. Baek Seok, on the other hand, does not appear as a specific space but is revealed by relationships. The relationship appears in various ways, including not only childhood relatives, but also those with people and things I met in other places. Thus, for Baek Seok, utopia shows that rather than functioning as any place, it may or may not be an ideal place, depending on the relationship between people or things.
