The fast growth of the elderly population and nuclear families have been creating substantial needs for age-homogeneous residential facilities for the aged people since 1960s in Korea. In this study, investigation on previous researches proposes developmental strategies for the longterm care facilities as follows : 1. The longterm care facility model in Korean should be in the form of congregate housing, composed of independent unit, daily activities care unit, and nursing unit. 2. The main functions of the longterm care facility should be food and housing services, medical services, and social interactions with neighborhood and recreation experts. 3. In designing the facility, many traditional aspects of the Korean housing culture such as heating(of On-Dol system) facility and furniture should be considered. In addition, traditional medical technology and nutrition plan should be reflected.
