대학캠퍼스 시각･청각 경관의 의미구조와 중요도: 전남대학교 용봉캠퍼스를 중심으로 = Semantic Structure and Importance of Visual Landscape and Soundscape in University Campus: Focusing on Chonnam National University’s Yongbong Campus

This study aims to identify semantic structures for evaluation of visual landscape and soundscape, by identifying psychological factors that form images of the landscape and soundscape of a campus. These images are acquired through a rich sensibility, memories, and experiences of members of a university campus. The study also aims to identify the relative importance of visual and auditory factors that affect the members’ satisfaction with landscape/soundscape in a university campus. A survey was conducted among the members of the Yongbong campus of Chonnam National University to analyze the overall images they have about the campus's landscape and soundscape. The images of visual landscape involve seven factors: vitality․ emotion, attraction, cleanliness, modernity, unity, complexity, and openness. And the factors that affect the satisfaction levels of visual landscape are, in the order of importance, attraction, vitality, emotion, cleanliness, and openness. The images of soundscape are affected by the following four factors: emotion, vitality, tranquility, and variability. And the satisfaction level of soundscape is affected by, in the order of importance, emotion, tranquility, vitality, and variability. The effect of visual landscape satisfaction level on the members’ overall satisfaction is slightly higher than that of soundscape satisfaction level. This study shows what the visual landscape and soundscape image expressions, perceived by the members of Chonnam National University’s Yongbong campus, represent. And how these images of psychological landscape can be translated into physical values remains an issue. This study reveals the semantic structure and attributes of how members of a university campus accept and relate them to landscape from the perspective of visual landscape and soundscape. The study attempts to expand the issue of campus landscape that has grown quantitatively to a more qualitative aspect, and to comprehensively identify and solve future landscape issues. This study is meaningful in that it takes the existing research of landscape to the next level by broadening the research of landscape, which has relied only on the visual landscape, to the issue of soundscape.
