These experiments were undertaken to evaluate the effect of the administration on oriental medicines, Antaeeum, Bosaengtang, Kyoaesamultang, Dalsaengtang in the pregnant rat and fetus. Sprague-Dawley rats were given oriental medicines by oral administration at 5mg/kg on days 1 to 20 of gestation period.
The result obtained are as follows. On the changes of maternal body weight, all groups were increased. There were no significant changes In blood chemistry value and hematological values. The absolute and relative organ weight of all groups were similar. but the dams treated with Antaeeum showed significant difference in spleen and kidney weight (P<0.05).
Bosaengtang and Dalsaengtang were more than control group in number of corpus luteum and implantation. Antaeeum and Bosaengtang were lower than control groupin delivery rate. All treated groups were higher than control group in implantation rate but they were lower than control group in early resorption rate. and all treated groups except for Gyoaesamultang were higher than control group in late resorption rate.
The fetuses of dams treated with oriental medicine weren't showed external malformation. and Vertebral and sternal variations were observed in all groups but when compare with control and treated groups, those did not become much differences.
From these results, it can be concluded that Antaeeum, Bosaengtang, Kyoaesamultang, Dalsaengtang showed beneficial effects on the maternal body weight, implantation rate, number of live fetus.
