This paper examines the general recognition to cultural events and through examining tourist motivations in participating in Baekjae festival the authortries to propose a motivation factor model.
The results of the research shows that such factors as educational factor, buying factor, attractive factor, unusual factor, leisure factor, Remembrance factor and Unity factor were the motivation factors in participating in Baekjae festival. And also the participation process and decision making process of tourists visiting Baejae festival was defined and explained by relation the theory of customer behavior.
First, educational factor as was the result, Baekjae festival should be not just an sacrificial event or a traditional ethenic play to see but also it must develope a new program so that tourist can directly get first-hand experience. That is to say that because the festival ground is widely distributed, their must be some kind of historical-cultural tourism route linking many historic sites and museums during the event period for family tourists and students so that it can tell the spirit and the wisdom of Baekjae. This can also prevent traffic jams by individual travelers during the event period.
Second, to stimulate purchase factor it must develope a character appropriate with the image of the Baekjae culture. Because in tourism the formation of the image need not be in direct relation to the destination it is very important in the decision making of tourists. By selling character tourism products it can create potential tourists to participate in Baekjae festival. Selling character tourism products can also stimulate the region's venture industries and also maximize the region's image.
Third, because the tourists who come to Baekjae festival are mainly family tourists and students they must develope some kind of traditional leisure activities through historical evidence so that the festival itself becomes more of a participation oriented rather than just seeing it.
Fourth, for the tourists to experience something different from everyday activities they must develope programs which has distinction from other such regional festivals such as calligraphy, making of traditional clothing (modern style), and Samulnori.
Fifth, there must be some kind of program that can make the local residents participate to bring together the residents.
As I mentioned if you can develope a festival distinctive from others, the tourist who participate in the Baekjae festival will remember it for year to come.
