開化期小設과 女性敎育論 = A Study on the Educated Woman in the Novels of the Kae-wha Period

In this thesis the theory of the women education and the educated woman in the novels of the Kae - wha Period are studied.
In those days pioneers declared the necessity of education. Especially the education for girls was urgent because none of them were learned and women's life was slavery to men.
Girls' schools were erected one by one. The education of women was carried out to some degree.
The second important issue for women was remarriage. Any young widow couldn't be remarried. She should remain unmarried through out her long life. It was so inhumanious that learned persons asserted remarriage.
Some novelists of the Kae-wha Period had an effect on social enligtenment with his works. The Edification Movement and the Literature of Enlightenment are both do carry out a reform.
In 「自由鍾」 「The Bell of Liberty」 and 「天中佳節」 「The Beautiful Season of May」, women discussed education and vocational posture just as in the papers, 「Dognip - Sinmun」, 「Daehan - mail - Sinbo」 etc.
Educated women are seen very often in the novels of the Kae - wha period All of them are young but married (or to be married). A lot of them become widows but couldn't married because of taboo of digamy of a woman. Ok - ryun, a heroin of 「the Bloody Tear」 tried out a free marriage but to fail.
Opening the Law of Digamy, started from the Inovation of Kab - o (갑오경장), some of them were remarried carefully.
Lee Tae - hee is a model of remarried young widow she is a heroin of 「홍도화」(「The Pink Peach Blossoms」). Her young husband died of sickness. When Tae - hee returned her maiden home, she remarried to Sang - ho who had been known stance school boy. And she showed doing away with her esteemed mother - in - law's superstitions All of those comes of schooling or education.

A novel as a mimesis of a real society forms reality under the renditions of language and style.
「The authors realized the present age, the Kae - wha Period, with his words and circumstances of the times. Ok - ryun, Tae - hee, and Jung - sook are the creatures of the times.
