Portfolio assessment has many promising aspects to enhance creativity and self-directed learning. The purpose of the study is developing a science portfolio system for elementary school children.
A portfolio system was developed based upon previous experiences of portfolio administration in the elementary science classes. The elements of the portfolio system are important learning objectives, portfolio forms, scoring rubrics, and portfolio administration schedules. Portfolio forms are designed to give guidance and direction in developing evidence for students. They are also supposed to assist students' achievement of objectives.
Portfolio systems were developed for nine units of elementary science curriculum. All of them are composed of learning objectives, forms for organization of portfolios, forms for the proving the achievement of learning objectives, spaces for peer or teacher feedback and self adjustment, and administration.
As a result of the research, portfolio systems were developed for nine units of elementary science curriculum. The portfolio systems should be tested in the science classroom for their effectiveness and practicality.
